Edison Lights Up in Canadian Derby Romp (video)
After setting in mid-pack early in the Canadian Derby Stakes (Gr 3), Edison took charge at the quarter pole and romped to an eye-widening 11 1/2-length triumph at Northland's Park.
There was no catching the Florida-bred Edison through the stretch as he extended his command with each stride for the open-lengths triumph as the 5-2 second choice in the 11-horse field.
Bred in Florida by Destiny Oaks of Ocala, Edison was a $950,000 purchase by Coolmore bloodstock adviser Demi O'Byrne at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Florida March sale of selected 2-year-olds in training.

When the Bernardini colt Edison rounded the final turn in the G3 Canadian Derby, there was absolutely no doubt he'd take command for the win. The three-year-old colt became the newest Graded Stakes winner for his sire.
Edison sat back in fifth position in the early stages of the race. Approaching the final turn the colt loomed large to take over the lead easily, and rolled in the stretch to clear away a winner.
Bred by Destiny Oaks of Ocala, Edison is out of Heart Of Grace, a half-sister to G2 winner Broad Dynamite. The family traces to G1 winners Very Subtle and High Schemes.

Blood-Horse (January 2014) - Edison Powers to Gulfstream Maiden Turf Win. Ridden in the eighth race by Luis Saez, 8-1 shot Edison broke running the rail post and never stopped, leaving 6-5 favorite Notability behind at the top of the stretch. He pulled clear to win by 4 3/4 lengths in 1:49.22 for nine furlongs.

Thoroughbred Daily News - "Light Bulb on for Edison" EDISON - Away well from his rail draw, he dictated terms from the get-go, clocking early splits of :23.68 and :47.95. Notability (English Channel) pressed him every step of the way and the pair were 10 lengths clear of their competition on the backstretch.
The field began to catch up in the lane, but Edison was never seriously threatened and strode home to a four-length graduation.
Edison, a graded stakes winning son of leading sire Bernardini, from the female family of Breeder's Cup Sprint (G-1) winner Very Subtle, has been retired for the 2016 breeding season. Edison, has the sire power, a wonderful family, a good temperament and his conformation is outstanding (given he sold for $950,000 as an un-raced 2 yr old in training). Rarely does a stallion prospect like this get introduced into a regional market.
